Mona Lisa Touch Laser Treatment
MonaLisa Touch is a non-invasive laser therapy, treating vaginal atrophy (or genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, also known as GSM).
How Does It Work?
The hormonal changes that come with Menopause can cause vaginal dryness and the lining of the vaginal wall can become very thin. This can lead to several symptoms including:
- Painful sexual intercourse.
- Vaginal discomfort and bleeding
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
- Urinary Incontinence
- Vaginal irritation, itchiness or burning.
MonaLisa Touch treatment works by repairing the vaginal tissue lining and helps to restore the vagina’s elasticity, making sexual intimacy more comfortable. It’s an alternative type of treatment for women who are either advised to avoid or prefer not to use oestrogen-based creams or medication.
The ideal candidates for MonaLisa Touch treatment are people who:
- Are experiencing symptoms low oestrogen symptoms during or after menopause.
- Other methods (such as oestrogen therapy) were unsuccessful.
- Have symptoms as a result of other procedures (such as chemotherapy/radiotherapy or surgery).
- Have been diagnosed with vulvar disorders.
The Treatment
The MonaLisa Touch is a CO2 (carbon dioxide) fractional laser, delivering beams of light into the specific area. The laser beams stimulates the vaginal tissue regenerating new blood vessels, causing the lining to regenerate and repair itself. The preparation for the procedure is very similar to attending a smear test, and you may feel a small vibration during the session,
The treatment takes around 5 minutes to complete and doesn’t require any anaesthetic. Numbing cream can be applied to the area.
You do not need any recovery time after having the treatment, you can carry on your day as normal but you may find there is a slight irritation for up to 26 hours after treatment.
